What is a Producer Organisation?

Producer Organisations are organisations established by producers of electrical and electronic equipment.

According to Finnish legislation a producer is liable for the recycling and other waste management of equipment put on the market by the producer. Producer responsibility can be transferred to a producer organisation.

As a member of a producer organisation a company can benefit from administrative, volume and logistics synergies arising from collective procurement and can affect the procurement of these services.

Moreover, the member company of a producer organisation need not submit separate notices to the register maintained by the supervising authority Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa.

Elker Ltd is a service company established by the producer organisations SELT Association, ICT Producer Cooperative, and FLIP Association. According to the law, the producer responsibility of producers can be transferred to a producer organisation. The above producer organisations have transferred obligations, by agreements, to Elker Ltd.

Elker Ltd is liable for its owners' obligations in such a manner that the obligations set out in the EU's WEEE directive and the corresponding obligations of the Finnish legislation are fulfilled. You can find information about producer responsibility and joining in as a member in one of our producer organisations via the links on the left.
