Large equipment

Large equipment consist of appliances of which one or all dimensions exceed 25 cm. For example, ovens, microwave ovens, washing machines and refrigerators are large equipment.

Usually more than 90 % of the large equipment consist of metals. Hence, their recycling process is relatively easy.

Most of the equipment is crushed into tiny pieces so that the materials can be separated and sorted with different technologies. 

Old freezers and refrigerators might contain gases like CFC and HFC that can damage the ozone layer and have therefore been later prohibited. Elker's partner Cool Finland Oy processes these gases: the gases and oils are separated from the equipment and safely delivered to a special waste unit. 

79 % of the materials of refrigerators can be utilized straight away as material, 17 % is utilized as energy and 4 % go to waste disposal.
