SELT Association
According to Finnish legislation a producer is
liable for the recycling and other waste management of equipment put on the
market by the producer. SELT Association manages recycling, dissemination of
information, registration, and other statutory obligations on behalf of its
members. With other
producer organisations SELT Association has established Elker Ltd as a company
providing centralised services to manage practical affairs.
SELT Association sees to it
that the recycling obligations of its industry's electrical and electronic
equipment manufacturers and importers are met and is responsible for the
following WEEE categories:
- WEEE 1 Large household
appliances
- WEEE 2 Small household appliances
- WEEE 5 Lighting
equipment
- WEEE 6 Electrical and
electronic tools
- WEEE 7 Toys, leisure and
sports equipment
- WEEE 8 Medical devices
- WEEE 9 Monitoring and control
instruments, and
- WEEE 10 Automatic dispensers
The board of directors of SELT
Association is responsible for the practical operations of the producer
co-operative in collaboration with Elker Ltd. There are nine product groups working under SELT Association, and every member company of the Association is welcome
to join the operation of the groups. The general meeting open to all members of SELT Association is held once a year in the spring.
SELT Association is one of the founders of service company Elker Ltd. Other founders are ICT Producer Co-operative and FLIP
Association. These three producer organisations take care of collection and recycling of all the ten WEEE categories, so
by joining SELT Association producer responsibility is fulfilled for all equipment
covered by the WEEE directive for consumer and business products alike.
The operation of SELT
Association and Elker Ltd is non-profit.
