Elker will launch a tender process for the pre-treatment of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) during autumn 2026, with new contracts taking effect at the beginning of 2027. The invitation to tender will also cover transportation between collection points and processing facilities, as well as preparation for reuse. WEEE is primarily collected and transported in cages.
In 2025, Elker collected approximately 23,000 tonnes of WEEE from households and businesses.
Pre-treatment and processing partners are required to hold a valid environmental permit and have the capability to report on treatment activities and material recovery rates for different material fractions. Partners are also expected to have standardized quality and environmental management systems in place, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, or to comply with the requirements of these standards.
The tender process will consist of two stages. The first stage will assess qualitative and operational aspects, while the second stage will focus on pricing and reliability of service. The tender is open to all industry operators and will be published on Elker’s website and LinkedIn. The invitation to tender will also be sent by email to known operators after the summer holiday period.

Large Household Appliances
By the end of 2026, WEEE Recycling will launch a tender process for the treatment of large household appliances (LDA). The tender process will be coordinated by the SER-tuottajayhteisö ry SERTY.
